There sure is a lot of “Victim Playing” going on in social media and out in the world since last Tuesday…
And it is coming mainly from people who showed total disrespect to President Obama and Michelle Obama for the last EIGHT STRAIGHT YEARS.
Makes me laugh, and by laugh, I mean roll my eyes.
Let’s take a quick look at playing the victim, shall we?
Playing the victim is the fabrication of victim-hood for a number of reasons, which include (but are not limited to) attempts to justify one’s own behavior, attempts to manipulate others or purely as a means of seeking attention.
When playing the victim, people will often
~ divert attention away from their own acts by claiming that their behavior was justified based on another person(s) behavior
~attempt to solicit sympathy from people in an effort to gain their approval/assistance in supporting or enabling their victim playing behavior
~rarely or never take responsibility for their part in the situation
People play the victim as a means of:
~justification to themselves – as a way of dealing with cognitive dissonance
~justification to others – as a way of escaping harsh judgment or condemnation they may fear will occur as a result of their own actions
This bears repeating: People play the victim as a way of escaping harsh judgment or condemnation they may fear will occur as a result of their own actions.
